Lisa Rabensteiner came home triumphant in the womens
category.
Saturday’s VAL GARDENA HERO XCE and yesterday’s cross country
race will be part of the event next year when the UCI mountain bike Marathon World
Championships will take place here in the Dolomites in June 2015.
The Organising Committee of the Sellaronda HERO is sure
that: «It will be a great week of world class racing with the XCE e XCO races providing
a little extra flavour!».
In mountain bike racing the cross country discipline
is highly regarded in that for
almost 20 years it has featured in the Olympics and this
is why the VAL GARDENA
HERO XCO this morning was closely followed for it
provided an ideal opportunity for Federation representatives to monitor form
with a view to selection for the next Olympics.
In the Élite category Gerhard Kerschbaumer from the I.
Idro Drain Bianchi team came home first after completing the 20 kilometre route
and saw off second placed Andrea Tiberi from the FRM Factory Racing Team,
whilst Ivan Alvarez Gutierrez competing
for Team Selle San Marco-Trek completed the podium.
In the womens category Lisa Rabensteiner from the Focus
XC Italy Team finished first holding off the challenge of second placed Anna
Oberparleiter biking for Carraro Team – Trentino and the third
placed finisher Denise Meraner representing Dynamic Bike Team.
The race event organisers were happy to comment as

VAL GARDENA HERO XCE and yesterday’s cross country race
here at Santa Cristina, Val Gardena has again proved to be the ideal setting
for mountain biking and event organisation.
The Sellaronda HERO is of course
the highlight and leading light of the
racing calendar here in the valley and next year’s UCI Marathon World Championships
will be a memorable celebration of mountain biking in Val Gardena».
Next year’s special week will begin the weekend of 20th/21st
June with the XCE and XCO
races and will conclude with the Südtirol Sellaronda
HERO on Saturday 27th June.
