biker, cari HEROes,
a poche
ore dalla gara mi sento in dovere di scrivere queste righe e, al termine del
mio appello, capirete quanto sia importante ciò che sto per dirvi.
Sin dalla
prima edizione nel 2010 noi della Sellaronda HERO abbiamo deciso di contrastare
una brutta abitudine di qualche biker che nell’impeto della gara getta a terra
i propri rifiuti. Questo è un comportamento che vogliamo combattere anche con
la squalifica di coloro che lasciano lungo il percorso
le cartacce degli snack o i contenitori dei gel. Tuttavia, la squalifica dei
pochi colti “in flagranza di reato” non basta per fermare questo triste
fenomeno: ad ogni edizione l’organizzazione, ma anche tante persone che hanno a
cuore le Dolomiti, raccolgono i rifiuti del dopo gara, ma molto spesso è
difficile recuperare tutto.
Questa
“spazzatura agonistica” costituisce un grande rischio per gli animali che
popolano le nostre montagne: sappiate che negli anni passati alcuni allevatori
sono stati costretti ad abbattere delle mucche che avevano inghiottito i
contenitori in carta d’alluminio. E la stessa cosa è avvenuta anche per alcuni
animali selvatici che popolano le nostre montagne.
In questa
settimana i riflettori di tutto il mondo sono puntati su di noi (o meglio, su
noi e voi biker) e molti non aspettano altro che attaccare il movimento della
mountain bike per le ragioni che vi ho descritto, mentre noi (o meglio, noi e
voi biker) sappiamo che il nostro è uno sport “nella natura” e “per la natura”.
Abbiamo una straordinaria occasione per dimostrarlo!
Mettetevi in tasca i residui non biodegradabili e farete un piacere a voi
stessi, agli altri e anche ai vostri figli, che fra qualche anno seguiranno le
vostre orme da HEROes!

Liebe
Mountainbike-Freunde, liebe HEROes,
wenige Stunden, bevor das Rennen startet, fühle ich mich in der Pflicht, diese
Zeilen zu schreiben. Und wenn ich damit fertig bin, werdet ihr verstanden
haben, wie wichtig das ist, was ich euch zu sagen habe.
Seit der
ersten Auflage des Sellaronda HERO im Jahr 2010 versuchen wir Organisatoren
tatkräftig der unschönen Gewohnheit mancher Biker entgegenzuwirken, die eigenen
Abfälle während des Rennens einfach in die Gegend zu werfen. Dieses schlechte Benehmen wollen wir auch dadurch ahnden,
indem wir diejenigen disqualifizieren, die an der Rennstrecke
Energieriegel-Papierchen oder Gel-Beutel liegen lassen. Doch leider reicht die
Disqualifikation einiger weniger „in flagranti“ ertappter Umweltsünder nicht
aus, um dieses traurige Schauspiel zu stoppen. Nach jedem Rennen sammeln wir
Organisatoren, unterstützt von Menschen, denen die Dolomiten am Herzen liegen,
die liegengebliebenen Abfälle ein. Doch es ist ein mühsames Unterfangen,
wirklich alles zu finden und aufzuklauben.
Dieser „Leistungssport-Müll“ stellt eine große
Gefahr für die Tiere unsere Bergwelt dar. Ihr müsst wissen, dass in den
vergangenen Jahren mehrere Bauern gezwungen waren, Kühe einzuschläfern, die
Snackbehälter aus Alufolie gefressen hatten. Ein ähnliches Schicksal traf
verschiedene Wildtiere, die in unseren Bergen leben.
In dieser
Woche ist die Aufmerksamkeit der ganzen Welt auf uns (oder besser: auf uns und
auf euch Biker) gerichtet. Viele Gegner des Mountainbikes warten nur darauf, um
unseren Sport aus den hier genannten Gründen zu attackieren. Während wir selbst
(oder besser: wir und ihr Biker) doch nur zu gut wissen, dass unser Sport ein
Sport „in der Natur“ und „für die Natur“ ist.
Jetzt
haben wir eine außergewöhnliche Gelegenheit, das auch zu beweisen!
Bitte
werft eure nicht biologisch abbaubaren Abfälle nicht in die Gegend, sondern
steckt sie in die Tasche. Damit tut ihr euch, den anderen und auch euren
Kindern, die eines Tages in eure HERO-Fußstapfen steigen werden, einen wirklich
großen Gefallen.“

Bikers, Dear Heroes,
With just a short time to go to the start of this year’s HERO race I feel a
responsibiilty to write to you direct and I know that at the end of this appeal
I send to you that you will realise how important it is to play your part.
Right from
the very first edition of the HERO we decided to penalise with disqualification
the unwelcome and uncalled for behaviour of a few bikers who, caught up in the
intensity of the race, threw rubbish on the ground. This is a measure we wish to apply vigorously, also in
instances of snack wrappers and cream containers being thown to the ground.
Notwithstanding the imposition of this drastic measure for those who were
‘caught in the act’ the occasional offender over the years has continued to not
respect our plea and the disrespectful practice which also puts at risk the
animals who live in our mountains has continued.
After each year’s event the Organisers and other
friends who have the wel-being of the Dolomites at heart have tried to collect
as much of the rubbish and waste as possible but it is difficult to recover and
eliminate all. The risk to animals is real for in past years farmers have been
obliged to put down cows which have swallowed aliminium wraps and we know also
that wild animals have suffered also.
During the
HERO attention from all over the world is focused on us as Organisers and you
as bikers and there are those who are ready to attack the mountain bike
movement as being anti-environmental so it is vital that the type of behaviour
I have described does not persist, for you and I know that the essence of
mountain biking is that is is ‘pro environment’. This year in particular we
have a great opportunity to demonstrate the fact!
Keep in your pocket your rubbish and only throw it in the bins which are
provided at the feeding stations along the way. Lets take this chance to show
for the benefit of ourselves and for our children who will follow us doen the
Hero path that our sport is super considerate and environmental caring.

Le
previsioni meteo sono sempre un terno al lotto, ma da più parti abbiamo
raccolto indicazioni che sabato 27 giugno è previsto bel tempo! Alla mattina le
temperature si attesteranno sui 11 gradi per raggiungere i 27 durante le ore
più calde della giornata. Come sapete, siamo in alta montagna e spesso il tempo
può cambiare dopo mezzogiorno: per il pomeriggio di sabato sono previsti dei
temporali, quindi ti ricordiamo di portare l'abbigliamento adatto anche per
affrontare l'eventualità di qualche goccia di pioggia! Per stare sempre

sind ja bekanntlich mit Vorsicht zu genießen, aber von mehreren Stellen haben
wir erfahren, dass für Samstag, den 27. Juni, schönes Wetter vorhergesagt ist!
Morgens werden die Temperaturen bei 11 Grad liegen und an den heißesten Stunden
des Tages auf 27 Grad ansteigen. Wie ihr wisst, sind wir im Hochgebirge, wo das
Wetter sich nach den Mittagsstunden oft ändert. Für Samstag Nachmittag sind
Gewitter vorhergesagt. Bitte denke daher daran, Kleidung zu tragen, mit der du
auch bei eventuellen Regenfällen gut unterwegs bist. Um immer up to date zu

It is
always a bit of a lottery to forecast the weather but we will try! According to
indications we have, good weather is predicted for Saturday 27 June! In the
morning temperatures should be around 11 degress and rising to 27 degrees
during the hotter early afternoon hours but as we know we are up in the
mountains and often the weather can change after midday, and in fact some
storms may occur in the afternoon if the forecast proves right and therefore we
ask you to bring and carry with you the right type of clothing to cater also
